What is High Sensitivity?

If you crave deep connection but dread small talk; if loud noises, certain smells, textures, or the wrong kind of lighting grate on your nerves; if you sometimes feel others' emotions so strongly you mistake them for your own, you may identify with the trait of high sensitivity.

Those of us with sensitive nervous systems feel the world intensely. When our sensitivity is uncared for and compounded by trauma, we are prone to overwhelm, anxiety, depression, and shutting down or dissociating from our bodies. However, with the right environment and support to care for and protect our sensitive gifts, our sensitivity becomes our power.

Many of the sensitive souls I work with identify as empaths or highly sensitive people (HSPs); others identify as Autistic, ADHD or multiply neurodivergent. Many of us are still exploring where we fit. As a highly sensitive and neurodivergent therapist, I bring my own sensitivity into the therapy space as I support you in navigating yours.

I believe that sensitivity is valuable, beautiful, and worthy of deep care. Together we will explore the tools and practices specific to you that help you care for your sensitivity and unlock its unique gifts. I will also support you in moving through past traumas and soothing a nervous system that may be extra sensitive as a result of what you’ve been through.

Whatever your particular set of circumstances and sensitivities may be, you can start by knowing there is nothing wrong with you, and you are not alone.
