Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer a sliding-scale?

Yes, I offer an allotted number of sliding scale fees between $80 and $140 per session. All sliding scale slots are filled at this time.

Please feel free to reach out and inquire about sliding scale options. If my fees are a barrier for you, I am happy to connect you with other low cost providers in the community.

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance. I can, however, provide you with a detailed receipt for our services for you to submit for reimbursement to your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits. If this is an option for you, I recommend contacting your insurance provider to verify the details prior to starting therapy. Be sure to ask whether out-of-network teletherapy is covered by your plan, if you have a deductible, and what percentage of the session fee they will reimburse.

Does virtual therapy work as well as in-person?

My short answer is yes. I’ve found that the screen between us is not an impediment to the connection and nonverbal communication between us, and that for many people, meeting this way has been more comfortable than traveling to an office. There are several benefits to virtual therapy such as being comfortable in your own space and my favorite - having your pets join our therapy sessions.

However, everyone is different and if you feel you need an in person therapist, I am happy to provide some referrals.

What can I expect from the therapy process?

The process begins with a brief phone conversation that helps me understand what is bringing you to therapy and for us to determine the initial fit. The first session is a 70 minute intake that allows me to better understand your background, your challenges, strengths and what you are wanting to work on in therapy. We'll collaboratively set goals for our journey together that we revisit over time. From there, ongoing sessions are 55 minutes and usually begin at a weekly frequency, sometimes moving to every-other-week based on your need and preference. The process is both emergent, based on what naturally comes to the surface for you that day, as well as being directed towards the intentions and goals that we set upon starting.

I find myself frequently reminding others (and myself!) that healing is non-linear in its nature. One of my favorite models for integrating this truth is watching how a passion flower grows. If you watch them in a time lapse video you can see that while the plant is continually moving upwards, it has to make many spirals as well as expansions and contractions along the way. Therapy is sort of like that!
